Very LARGE antique landscape oil painting on canvas in the manner of Claude Lorrain unsigned in gilt frame.
Although the painting is not signed it does show great depth and talent of the artist and brings together all the familiar elements of Claude Lorrain's famouns romantic landscapes depicting a traditional basket weave round top hut with a family picnic by the creek. The painting has been framed in gold leaf gilt wood frame which bears the several old labels in hand writted copperplate script with a name and Woodlands Hadley Road

Vernon Deschamps is a pseudonym name used my Scottish born artist James Swinton Diston born in Edinburgh 1857. He studied and exhibited at at the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Academy. He migrated to Australia in 1886 where he prospered until his passing in 1940.

Henri Tebbitt was born in Paris in 1852. He was a self taught artist and exhibited in the Royal Academy in 1884. Tebbitt travelled to Australia in 1889 and did a large quantity of work especially in watercolours of which this is one of those works. He returned to Europe for various exhibitions and emmigrated to Australia in 1903 and settled in Rose Bay Sydney.
Tebbitts works wereacquired by major city and state galleries throughout Australia. This work is signed by the artist lower right. It is presented in a wooden frame and is under reflective glass .

This important early 18th century painting is after the famous work by Rembrandt van Rijn entitled The Standard Bearer , Floris Soop (1604-1657). The golden sash is a tooled leather baldric or sword belt and indicates the figure to be an ensign of Amsterdamn's civic guard companies. Floris Soop was a wealthy man and was a connoisseur of the art world collecting over 140 paintings in his life time as well as a portrait by Rembrandt. The original painting is currently in the Metropolitan Museum NY. This early 18th century artwork is a superb quality painting but is also unsigned. It is presented in an antique gold watergilt carved wooden frame.

Beautifully painted antique watercolour painting of a tranquil farmhouse set in a Winter Landscape. Signed by the noted English Australian artist Henri Tebbitt (1852-1927 Rose Bay Sydney). Tebbit was born of English parents in Paris and continued to travel broadly. He exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts in 1884 and came to Australia in 1889. His artistic skill is best appreciated in watercolours and some of these large scale paintings were acquired by leading Australian art galleries. Smaller size watercolours by Tebbitt were quite rare. Tebbitt establishing a gallery at 74 Hunter St Sydney and held many exhibitions of his works. Signed lower right corner : H Tebbitt. This is one of his earlier works complete with snow covered riverscape complete with thatched cottages and a river punt.

James Ashton (1859-1935) was born in York and educated in London. he emigrated to Adelaide SA 1884 establishing the Norwood School of Arts 1886. A very gifted artist he loved painting outdoors in watercolour and his oil paintings are rare treasures. He returned to England in 1894 and was elected to the Royal Society of Arts and returned to his family in Australia the following year. His son Sir John William Ashton became a highly acclaimed artist and was appointed Director of the Art Gallery of NSW in 1936. Beautifully detailed oil painting on canvas of a harbour scape complete with wharf and ships with the city skyline in the distance. This superb painting is mounted in a later giltwood frame and appears to have an inscribed signature into the oil paints lower right ...J Ashton for James Ashton. Although techically Australian this London Thames docks scene would most likely date to 1894-1895.

An affluent politician, soldier, and devoted Royalist, William Cavendish fought for Charles I during the English Civil War. He established a riding school in Antwerp with several Barbary horses obtained in Paris, and in 1657, published his revolutionary and influential work on equestrian training techniques, 'La Methode et Invention nouvelle de Dresser les Chevaux'. An English edition was published in 1743 as 'A General System Of Horsemanship In All Its Branches', with beautiful illustrations of Cavendish skillfully training and riding his horses at his Antwerp ménage and his various English estates like Bolsover Castle and Welbeck Abbey.

He built an important Australian reference library . His passion all thinks maritime led him to recreating historican scenes with famous ships. This engraving of HM Bark Endeavour at Botany Bay near Kurnell where Captain James Cook first landed and was met by an Aborigine welcome. Mounted and framed under glass and in excellent condition. Signed and numbered 50/50.

Original Danish oil painting on canvas signed Ingolf Due Olufsen in ornate gilt carved frame circa 1930.
Born in Copenhagen Denmark in 1904, Ingolf Due Olufsen was influenced by Leo Houlberg and was famous for painting in the Paris manner of mid century Montmarte artists with particular spatula technique . He painted Copenhagen streetscenes and Danish landscapes.
This painting features the fish sellers on the Gammel Strand with the copper spire of the recently completed Christiansborg Palace ( 1928) in the background.

This superb maritime painting is of the Glasgow built Changsha, a steamer clipper that transported passengers from Hong Kong to Australia. She was built at Scotts Greenock in Glasgow for the China Navigation Company London in 1886. She was a 2,269 gross tons single screw steamship clipper with 2 masts rigged for sailpower. In 1912 she was sold to the Australian Oriental Line ( G S Yuill and Co. ) Sydney. This painting shows the Changsha under full steam with A&O Lines house flag. He studied art from a young age and at sixteen was exhibiting his works. His studies were completed in London at the South Kensington School, and by his mid thirties he was a member of the Royal Cambrian Society and the Royal West of England Academy. He is probably best known, though, for his etchings - usually detailed views of buildings He also used the alia "A Simes" on some of his etchings, especially for the more famous churches, palaces and castles.

The dome top shape is solid heavy spruce pine with original wrought iron lock working key and escutcheon.
Two ornate wrought iron carry handles are mounted at the ends. An iron chain assists with holding the lid open in place.
These gorgeous antique dome top trunks are usually given to the bride and groom upon their wedding and was lovingly hand made usually by a memeber of the family hence the initials and date surrounded by ornate floral design. These trunks would contain the highly prized linen and lace that made the provincial farmhouse feel more like a sophisticated home. A rarity is that this chest retains its original wrought iron lock and original working key . Sweden 1831

Set of four engraving Antique Roman Emperor coins in gilt frames after Jegher-Goltzius woodcuts of the 17th century. Mounted under glass and in gilt frame. These are reprints of the original chiarusco woodcut (with brown tone) combined with a line etching, on a verge type hand laid paper. The original print originates from an edition of Hubert Goltzius' 'Icones Imperatorum Romanorum' (this edition is not dated). The first edition of this work was published between 1557 and 1560 in Antwerp by J. Coppens van Diest. Given the appearance of eg. Rudolph II in this edition, some portraits were added after Goltzius' time in later editions. Artists and Engravers: Hubert Goltzius is often credited with etching the portraits. Christoffel Jegher made the woodcuts. Christoffel Jegher (1596-1652/3) was a wood engraver born at Antwerp. He worked for Rubens from 1627 and is probably a pupil of Christoffel van Sichem. Hubert Goltzius (1526-1583) was a Dutch humanist author, antiquarian and numismatist. He was born in Venlo, and studied under Lambert Lombard in Liege and later in Antwerp. He settled in Bruges in 1558 and starts publishing several works on ancient numismatics.

Jens Juel painted this portrait of a lady with pearl earrings in 1766 and it is remarkable . The noble visage of a lady with fair skin and with fine lacework collar and lace hat peers out at you from the canvas. She is quite a nordic beauty and knowingly glances with pride whilst wearing a very large pearl earring, a rarity in its age in Europe. She would grace any home. REAL BRONZE heavy statue of a proud horse in the mannerr of da Vinci. A very similar example is in the Metropolitan museum of Art and sculpted by Giovanni Bologna called Giabologna 1529-1608. It was cast in Italy 1575-1653 in the workshop of Francesco Susini.
This statue available is unmarked , no signature of founrdy stamps. It has a beautiful patina and is a wonderful example of equestrian sculpture. It has an integral cast bronze plinth base with later felt pad below.
